Adele the most powerful woman in music??? hmm

the fact that Adele has apparently "rewritten the music rule book this year with the stratospheric success of her second album . . In an industry that increasingly struggles to sell its physical product" leads me to believe that it's the particular audience that Adele attracts that has made the difference.
No offence to Adele, I really do like her voice and her songs but I think the agegroup she attracts might largely consist of the 40+ bracket, and these people come from a generation where they aren't as confident with torrent sites and illegal downloading and when there is a song they like on the radio - they actually go to a shop and buy it! shock horror!! I know a lot of mum's and grannies who like Adele and enjoy listening to her in their car's and at Sunday BBQ's! My thoughts aren't based on fact, just on opinion which is based on personal experience.

Also, the fact that she has so much money behind her means that there are probably a whole roomful of monkeys dedicated to shutting down any illegal leaks they see cropping up 24 hours a day. Now I can't say this for sure because I don't know anything about torrent sites and quite frankly the evil viruses scare me off. This is just what I thought when I read the

It's Like Drums - Lyrics

Alex Dale asked me to post these lyrics up so here they are. megan x

You're like drums, you keep the timing
I hear them beat, when you're breathing
You know sums like the back of my hand
So tall in your boots, when you're standing there

You're my drum, you're my drum

You're my drum, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums
You're like drums, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums

When I'm close to your body,
I hear them beat when you're breathing,
What you hiding in that hair?
You're like drums, you keep my timing

You're my drum, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums
You're like drums, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums

Oh mon cher, tu es mon tout
mon couer bat pour toi
sans toi, je suis perdu
moi et vous en rouge et bleu

You're my drum, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums
You're like drums, I hear drums, you're like drums, I hear drums

Whiteboard Music Interview!

Interview : Thomas Tantrum

click here to see other interviews from Whiteboard Music

http://thewhiteboardproject.tumblr.com/

The latest Whiteboard Project feature is dedicated to Thomas Tantrum. The project met up with Megan and Dave (x2) in Hoxton Square for a beer whilst they got busy with the pen and board for one of our best photo-based interviews yet.

If you have somehow been trapped under a rock somewhere quiet for the last few years, Thomas Tantrum, a Southampton-based 4-some, combine, as their name suggests, some top notch contrasting cute-to-angry indie-pop. With a sophomore record on the horizons we cut to the Q’s they won’t be getting asked in the following weeks.

To accompany your quick-read, do listen to their latest offering ‘Sleep.’

Now onto the interview ….

1. To warm-up… Please draw what you’re best at drawing.

2. So how has the music industry been treating you?

3. What would you say has been the best thing to happen to Thomas Tantrum yet?

4. Can you draw & label a pie chart for me, labeling what goes into making Thomas Tantrum music?

5. Pick the ideal film and moment for a Thomas Tantrum song.

6. What record do you recommend readers buy?

7. Thomas Tantrum in 5 years?

8. The whiteboard is your advertisement tool. Please please promote yourself here.

9. And lastly … A message fan your fans?

Thomas Tantrum To Support Independents With Forthcoming Release

Buy Tickets

Independent record store shoppers will be rewarded with bonus material

Thomas Tantrum

Speaking in an interview with DIY yesterday, Thomas Tantrum revealed their plans to support independent record stores through the release of their forthcoming album.

The record, which is due out in June, will come accompanied with bonus material when bought in independent shops.

Drummer Dave Wade Brown said of the project, "We're mainly getting singles and b-sides together, and just loads of extra stuff like bonus tracks for the Japanese release and iTunes. It will be finished pretty soon though because you've got to hand all of the stuff over weeks and weeks in advance. "

He continued, "We're doing this bonus CD for indie record stores so if you go and buy the physical release from an independent you get one. We haven't decided how many tracks yet and we've got about three weeks to do that. So hopefully we can write some new stuff and do some alternative versions. If people go and buy that, they'll get basically a double album."

Frontwoman Megan Thomas says that the new material is a little different to their debut, "Our second album is quite different to our first album. The first album's like, "yeah, here we are, we're really poppy" but the second one's a bit more melodic and a bit more dream-pop melodic-escape."

The band are getting ready to tour with Glasvegas for the second time but are unphased by the differences in their sounds, with Megan saying,"it's nice to have a bit of variety".

Bassist Jim Shivers continues, "You do get a couple of lads that heckle out but overall, it's surprisingly ok."

You can catch Thomas Tatrum playing with Glasvegas next week:

yes 'tis true. We are giving away a free cd full of demos we have written in the past couple of years. some are pretty darned scratchy, others could pass for album quality. We don't have a tracklisting yet but will let you know soonly. getting really excited about releasing dodgy recordings of songs for some reason.

who is coming to see us on tour eh?!

get yourself some tickets we're gonna be shit hot xxx

Band Of Skulls Sleep Remix

Check out the wicked remix Band of Skulls did for our song Sleep

super cool.
I hear they are in the studio recording their second album now so keep your eyes and ears peeled for their next offering!
Things are pretty slow in sleepy southampton but the sun is out and there's a lot to be done in preparation for the album.
We're currently thinking about the music video for our second single "Hot Hot Summer" which is due out in June. It's a bit of a cliche that it's called hot hot summer and it's out in the summer. but it wasn't intentional, and the song is actually about the winter. bit confusing i know.
We will also be announcing some last minute shows over the next week or so. we also have a 2/3 week tour in june i'm not sure if it's been announced yet or not.
anyway, till next time chaps

irrational fear of pick 'n' mix

So I had a freaky dream the other night that i was stuck in Woolworths with lots of pick 'n' mix chasing after me and demanding that I eat all of them before I can leave.
This has been haunting me ever since and now I was in the WHSMiths the other day bulk buying some biro's in and what should I come across but a whole row of the horrid little sweetie things. I couldn't even bring myself to buy the biros after that. as a result now I can't find any pens to write with. bastard little pick 'n' mix.
hopefully this fear will subside along with my fear of lifts, injections, slugs and anteaters.
I might write all my dreams up here actually. I always start writing a dream book but then loose it and have to start another.

Bulgaria, new york, band biog

we haven't been very proactive on the old band blog because we've been all over the shop. The boys have been in Bulgaria helping our good friend Joe Parker record his new album (which is going to be amazing) and i've been in new york just wandering round checking out the sites and i LOVED IT. i think i might move there when i grow up/get rich. people are so happy there and just rap at ya as you're walking down the street. and i got called a "home girl" a few times. I like being a home girl but i'm not entirely sure what it means? Does it mean you stay at home if you're a girl? or does it mean they like me and want to take me to their home to be their girl? well whatever it means I'm glad that I am one. I think. gonna post some photos up in a bit and I think Wade will be posting some of his amazing photos of bulgaria up too.

Anyway I wanted to let you know that we have a brand new band biog to accompany our brand spanking new album and you can read it here

http://www.thomastantrum.co.uk/2011/03/30/read-our-new-biog/

it might be a bit premature because you haven't heard the album yet but it kind of explains the story of how the album came about/was written.
see ya soon ma homies (in an american accent)

New RAC remix and other stuff

hiyarrr

so we received a new remix for "sleep" today and it's up here now and available to download

http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Thomas_Tantrum/music

what do you think of it? i think it's a smasher. got a kind of Cure "close to me" vibe.

so it's a rainy day here in southampton which is my favourite weather ever and it's making me happy. The boys have all vamooshed off to Bulgaria to record on Joe Parker's new album and I have just received the mastered version of our new album so I'm going to put my headphones on and go for a long walk. Maybe stop in at some charity shops and find some treats. I'm off to the Big Apple on tuesday and I just can't wait. It will be my first time in America. Any tips for places to visit? I think I will be staying in Williamsburg but I'm not sure yet because I've still not booked any hotels.

Anyway let me know what you think of the RAC remix

A warm welcome, our new single video and free gigs this week

Hi everyone,

This is the first mailing list email from us to you! First of all thanks everyone for signing up and we hope you really enjoyed the Birdsong EP we gave away over Christmas. You can still download it now, so tell your friends by sending them the link http://www.thomastantrum.co.uk/

Since then we have made a music video for our new forthcoming single "Sleep" which is going to be released March 27th. You can watch the music video by clicking here.

It's a kind of tongue-in-cheek take on the song and involved spending hours sitting on an office chair pretending to be on a rollercoaster made out of bed carriages. Pretty random.

When "Sleep" is released to download on March 27th, it'll come with two new b-sides called "It's Like Drums" and "Children Of The Night", plus remixes from Band Of Skulls and RAC as well as an old school extended version.

Sleep and insomnia are recurring themes which run throughout the album; that of dusk, dreaming, the moonlit soirée...

Keep an eye out on our official site, Facebook and YouTube as we’ll be posting video blogs in the coming weeks where you can hear more about where the songs from the album came from and stories from our recording sessions

Anyway, as for live performances, we are playing a show on Thursday this week, March 10th, at the Old Queen's Head in London and its free. If you want to come along, we'll be playing tracks from the new album "Mad By Moonlight" which is due to be released in June. It's been some time coming, but we're really happy with the album now and can't wait for it to be released. It’s more of an album this time round, as opposed to just a collection of songs. It's still a party album like the last one, but with more of a twilight vibe running through it (not in the vampire sense). Also playing at the show will be fellow Southamptoners Oresteia who are absolutely ace - you can check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/oresteiaband

In addition to this, we will be performing live acoustic versions of the songs at Oxfam Music in Southampton this coming Saturday, 12th March, this is a free gig and more details can found here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=195790307115728 It's an Oxjam event and we will be joined by other local talents.

Then on Sunday, we'll be playing a show in Asgard Tattoo Parlour also in Southampton, tickets are only £4.00 and more details can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=196625120366382 So it's a whole weekend of music fun!

Hope you're all doing well and look forward to seeing you at some shows very soon.

New Single, album and tour details!

Hi everyone!

We have news about our new single "Sleep", the first release from our second album "Mad By Moonlight".
You can have the first listen of it on our official Soundcloud page (http://soundcloud.com/thomastantrum) taken from the 6music play by Marc Riley the other night. Have a listen and don't forget to follow us on Soundcloud too. We'll be
posting more music there very soon....

AND you can hear another track from the album, "Cold Gold", thanks to the nice people at Music Week and their Soundcloud.
Listen to it here - http://soundcloud.com/music-week/thomas-tantrum-cold-gold.

Let us know what you think of both songs!

Since the release of our first album in late 2008, we enlisted new drummer Dave Wade Brown and have been locked away writing the “difficult second album” for forever it seems. There is a definite shift in style since our first album.
We think the tracks are more melodic and melancholy, yet still upbeat and happy if that's possible? Both “Sleep” and the album were produced by our long term collaborator Rik MacNamara.

Inbetween writing and recording we've managed to play some shows though including a tour with the lovely Band Of Skulls and also some low key appearances at festivals such as Truck and Offset. Hopefully there will be a lot more of that coming
this summer!

Over Christmas we spent a few days at Peter Gabriel's studio in Bath and recorded an ep entitled “Birdsong” which is still available to download FREE from here - www.thomastantrum.co.uk. All you have to do is sign up for the mailing list and
then that way we can keep you up to date with the release and any shows or tours.

We're sorting out more gigs right now. We'll let you know when and where soon as we can, but in the meantime, we've confirmed March 10th at the Old Queen’s Head in London.

Thanks everyone :)
